REFLECTIONS ON FEBRUARY

                                      REFLECTIONS ON FEBRUARY

I visualize the seasons on the face of a time clock with January in the number twelve position and February at one ‘o’clock. As we swing down the timepiece, we descend into the cold, even frigid temperatures of the winter. The wind chill greets us and causes my bones to shiver in the tango. With this in mind, my body tenses in apprehension and alarm. The cold feels unfriendly. While keeping me warm at home, my heating system dries my skin. I dreaded the month of February, perhaps the coldest month of the year!
My thoughts about February (and the winter) have shifted, and I think this has something to do with my being in the flow: more joyful and in the moment, frequently. My resistance to the cold is lifted. In the metaphor, I’m not swimming upstream like a salmon who dies after spawning. Rather, I am moving with the water, buoyed by the momentum and available support, moving with consciousness, the connected others of which we are all a part! My spirituality helps me accept and entertain the current moment…
At present, there is more of an adventure to February and the winter. I must admit, I do feel more of an affinity for spring, summer and fall…yet I am not resisting or bracing myself against winter. Winter is an opportunity for renewal and reflection. I expect the cold and frigid days, some snow and wind. My clothing reflects this reality. With the recent single-digit temperatures on the East Coast, I wore 5 layers of garb, together with a hat, gloves, scarf and boots.
In my home I feel cozy. I use cream to soften my skin. On the 14th, I celebrated with a delicious meal, smiling at others (A smile is a burst of sunshine.) as I do on most days.
Life is good. I feel warm in February.
Light, Love & Peace,
